All full time employees, paid by Itron and located in the US or Canada are eligible for assistance from the Foundation whether or not they have previously contributed to the IEEF.

The IEEF provides direct financial grants to eligible employees that meet qualifying circumstances. The maximum amount awarded for an employee per emergency is $10,000.

Direct Grant Eligibility Quick Test

To determine if your circumstance qualifies for the Itron Employee Emergency Foundation’s (IEEF) Direct Grant, please consider the following:

Is your financial hardship a direct result of one of the following circumstances?

  • Natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires or earthquakes
  • Serious illness or injury to employee or member of his or her immediate family[1]
  • Unforeseeable death of the employee or a member of his or her immediate family
  • Unforeseen circumstances beyond the employee’s control

If you answered “Yes” to the question above, you may be eligible for a Direct Grant through the IEEF. Read the next section and download an application to get started.

Direct Grant

To be eligible for a Direct Grant not to exceed $10,000, an employee must demonstrate an inability to meet essential living expenses (defined in the next section) due to the following unforeseeable, qualifying circumstance(s):

  • Natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires or earthquakes
  • Serious illness or injury to employee or member of his or her immediate family
  • Unforeseeable death of the employee or a member of his or her immediate family
  • Unforeseen circumstances beyond the employee’s control

What’s Covered by a Direct Grant

If an employee experiences a qualifying emergency, the IEEF may provide a Direct Grant for:

  • Housing (must have received a past due notice)
  • Utilities (must have received a past due notice)
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Travel-related funeral expenses (for employee or immediate family for whom they are financially responsible)
  • Health care-related travel expenses (for employee or immediate family for whom they are financially responsible)
  • Medical devices essential for daily living not covered by health insurance

  • Other expenses necessary to continue employment
  • Non-preventable house repairs/furnishings to ensure basic needs are met (shelter, mobility)
  • Emergency car repair (based on estimate/$1,000 maximum)

What’s Not Covered by a Direct Grant

The IEEF will not provide a Direct Grant for anything not explicitly covered in the previous section. The IEEF cannot help if an employee is unable to pay for basic living expenses because of credit card bills or because of temporary loss of work of the employee or a member of the employee’s family. Additionally, Direct Grants cannot be made before an employee has an immediate need. Examples of items not covered are:

  • Funeral expenses
  • Daycare
  • Credit card bills
  • Personal loan payments
  • Insurance premiums
  • Car payments
  • House repairs or improvements
  • Legal fees
  • Non-essential utilities (phone or cable)
  • Furniture/electronics
  • Non-qualifying circumstance expenses
  • Down payment to purchase a house/fund a home loan

IMPORTANT Even if an employee’s emergency circumstance does not qualify for a Direct Grant, he or she may still contact the IEEF for possible non-monetary assistance or referral.
